Vocal cord palsy occurs when one or both vocal cords fail to move properly due to nerve damage, stroke, viral infections, tumors, or trauma. This condition can cause breathy or weak voice, difficulty swallowing, and aspiration of food or liquids into the airway. Treatment options include: Injection laryngoplasty: A temporary solution where a filler material like hyaluronic acid or fat is injected into the paralyzed vocal cord to improve closure and voice strength. Thyroplasty (Medialization Laryngoplasty): A permanent surgical procedure where an implant is placed in the larynx to reposition the paralyzed vocal cord, allowing better closure and voice projection. Arytenoid adduction surgery: A more advanced procedure performed when there is significant vocal cord asymmetry. Post-surgical speech and voice therapy are crucial to train the patient in proper voice use and optimize vocal outcomes.
